Ottawa County trapper, Tom Werkman, works directly with landowners to reduce and control the damage being done by wildlife to personal property. That damage can be to crops, livestock, lawns, pond banks and drainage ditches.
Growing up in Holland, Michigan he attended Hope College. He currently lives in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Tom has spent the past 25 years in banking. In addition to being a trapper, he’s an owner and guide at Werkman Outfitters.
He cares deeply about wildlife and making sure that healthy populations exist for all to enjoy. For that reason, he gives of his time. He serves on various boards and committees to help educate, protect and preserve wild places and wildlife.
Those include serving as a founding member and past President of the Ottawa County Parks Foundation. a founding member and Treasurer of The Outdoor Discovery Center, and the Capital Campaign Committee for The Blandford Nature Center. Most noteworthy, he has served as an Ottawa County Parks Commissioner for the past 9 years. In this role, he has help oversee 7,000 acres of parks and open space.
